Question: I've seen other similar PHP RSS aggregator scripts out there. How does FeedAM stack up against the competition?

Answer: You're not limited to just blog posts as another popular script offers. You can display RSS and Atom feed data easily on ANY webpage. Many other scripts don't allow you to easily edit the feed channel data (title, description, link, etc.) Most other scripts don't offer Atom feed support. FeedAM also offers user functions such as comments, ratings and search along with user accounts plus login - allowing you to create an online community. Most importantly all the data is stored in your database and text is embedded directly in your pages unlike some JavaScript widgets. Some other programs even generate the web pages on your local computer, leaving you to FTP the pages to your server later. With FeedAM you don't have to worry about that since everything is managed and build right on your server. You can setup CRON jobs to parse the feeds and build the pages every 5 minutes, hourly, daily or whenever you choose. FeedAM offers pagination (you set # of entries per page), mixed or grouped feed style, sorting RSS items (by newest first, alphabetically, user rating, custom rank value). You can also create custom or "synthetic" feeds and items/entries of your own data. Over a thousand hours went into the development of FeedAM and it's unlikely you'll find a superior turn-key RSS aggregation solution PERIOD.

How FeedAM Works:

1. Add the feeds.

Enter RSS, Atom or RDF feed URLs and define which templates to use to display feed data. Define the number of entries per page (or have all on one page), number of pages to build (or select unlimited). Define if a feed should be "Live only" which excludes the feed from archiving.

2. Add Category Pages (optional).

Select which feeds to display in each category. Mix feed entries/items together (with multiple sorting options) in a list or keep feed entries/items grouped separately.

3. Customize Templates.

Easily edit and design templates in your WYSIWYG HTML editor. Macros are used to create your layout for displaying feed data elements (title, link, description, etc.). This couldn't be any easier!

4. Parse the feeds to store content in the database.

Parse the feeds and archive all feed data in a MySQL database. This is optional since some feeds you won't want to archive such as ending eBay auction listings.

5. Edit feed contents (optional).

You have the ability to edit all feed data elements in the admin. Create "keyword strings" that auto-link keywords to specified URLs. You can also completely hide (not display on site) particular entries/items from a feed if desired.

6. Build/Display the pages.

Build category pages, feed directory pages, feed data pages, individual entries/items pages, newest entries/items pages. You can even output RSS and Atom feeds for your pages to syndicate your own feeds.

Displaying feeds on your existing pages is very easy by simply using an include.

For example, just paste this code wherever you want a feed to appear on your site(s):

<?PHP include'http://www.yoursite.com/live_feed.php?fid=FEED_ID' ?>

7. Setup CRON jobs to make your site auto-update.

Set your server to automatically parse and build the pages on your site to any time(s) you wish.
